Help & FAQ
Getting Started
How do I create a game?
Go to Games → New Game. Choose a name, set the duration, starting balance, and which markets (ASX, S&P 500, or both) to include. Then share the invite link with friends.
How do I join a game?
You can join from the Games list, or use an invite link shared by a friend. Click “Join” and you’ll receive the starting cash balance.
Is real money involved?
No. StockGame uses entirely virtual currency. You cannot deposit, withdraw, or convert game money into real money.
Trading
How do I buy or sell stocks?
Navigate to a stock from the Stocks page, then click “Trade”. Enter the number of shares and confirm. The trade executes at the latest available price.
What are limit orders?
A limit order lets you set a target price. If the stock reaches your price, the order fills automatically. Go to a stock’s trade page and select “Limit Order” instead of a market order.
What about trade fees?
Game creators can set a per-trade fee when creating a game. This simulates real brokerage fees. The fee is deducted from your cash on each trade.
How does multi-currency work?
ASX stocks trade in AUD and S&P 500 stocks trade in USD. If the game’s base currency differs from a stock’s currency, an exchange rate is applied automatically at the time of the trade.
Can I short sell?
Only if the game creator enabled short selling. When allowed, you can sell stocks you don’t own to bet on prices falling.
Scoring & Leaderboard
How is the winner decided?
The player with the highest total portfolio value (cash + holdings) at the game’s end date wins.
How often are prices updated?
Stock prices are fetched regularly from market data providers. In-game portfolio values update as new prices arrive.
